Creating healing products for my new baby was such a beautiful feeling when I was pregnant. I spent the few weeks before our son was born preparing meals for postpartum life and making lotions, oils, this diaper rash salve, baby powder and a few others things for our sweet new babe's skin. It was cathartic, kept me busy to make time go by quicker and the whole time I was just thinking about all the beautiful moments I would soon be having with my own son.
I knew after using this healing salve on him for a few months that it was really amazing! I had found a great combination of herbs and oils that were safe enough to use on his new skin, yet powerful enough to heal any rashes, dryness or irritations that he would get from his diaper. We used disposable diapers the first couple months (so I didn't have to worry about laundry on top of learning how to be a mom), but have been using cloth diapers ever since he was about 12 weeks. Using cloth diapers definitely helps prevent diaper rash on its own, but when we started introducing new foods, this diaper rash salve definitely came in handy when he would try something that might cause a bit of a problem downstairs.

THE POWERFUL SUNKISSED INGREDIENTS
+ COMFREY LEAF: encourages cell regrowth of connective tissues; demulcent and soothing. Comfrey is a POWERFUL and QUICK healer, so make sure the affected area is clean before using.
+ BURDOCK ROOT: Cleansing & antibiotic. A decoction of this root is commonly prescribed by herbalists to remove build up of toxins from the body when related to skin issues. The infused oil has similar properties when applied topically to the skin.
+ ECHINACEA ROOT: antiobiotic, antibacterial, antifungal. We take a tincture of this when we have colds or feel sickness coming on, it is a wonderful immune system booster and a strong infection fighter!
+ CALENDULA: one my favorite herbs to grow and use! So beautiful, so sweet smelling and so healing. Astringent, antiseptic, antifungal, skin healing, soothing & anti-inflammatory.
+ PLANTAIN LEAF: topically healing and soothing; has drawing properties to detoxify the skin and body
+ ST. JOHNS WORT: aids the skin in regeneration and healing; anti-inflammatory.
+ OLIVE OIL: healing, antibacterial, soothing and rich in oleic acids.
+ UNREFINED COCONUT OIL: anti-bacterial, anti-fungal; moisturizing and soothing for the skin.
+ BEESWAX: antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, helps seal moisture in the skin without clogging pores.
As you can see, all of the ingredients I've chosen for this salve have similar properties, and most of them have been used for centuries to heal skin ailments. I LOVE knowing what I'm using on my little one's body came straight from the earth, was grown under the sun, and is safely and naturally healing his little body.
The other great thing about his healing salve is that it can be used NOT ONLY on diaper rash, but other minor skin rashes, cuts, scrapes, eczema, etc. Not just good for baby booty. =)
